Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy at Glenbridge

The American Occupational Therapy Association has declared the month of April as Occupational Therapy Month! We want to recognize and thank our Occupational Therapists here at Glenbridge. To acknowledge our Occupational Therapy Department, we have asked Kaylin Hipps, our Therapy Manager, to write a little bit about our program and what makes our facility unique!

Hello family and friends of Glenbridge, my name is Kaylin Hipps, TPM COTA/L. I have been here at Glenbridge for just about four years now and the therapy manager for two. I enjoy spending time and getting to know your loved ones at our beautiful facility in Boone, NC.

Our Therapy department has the best there is to offer. We offer Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech-Language Pathology therapy five times a week. We have an updated therapy gym that includes a fully functioning kitchen, bathroom, and steps with the newest equipment.

I pride myself on how patient-centered our Therapy team is when working with your loved ones. Our therapy team not only works with your loved one but with you as well. Our goal is to get your loved one at their highest Functional level. We are also able to offer e-stem, ultrasound, and other modalities along with manual therapy.

We also work closely with the Nursing department as well as the Wound Nurse, Dietary staff, Restorative nursing, CNAs, and the Activities department to help make your loved one have an enjoyable stay while they are in our care.

Most people are not aware of just what Occupational Therapy does and how we can help their loved ones. Here are a few interesting facts to get you started!

  • Occupational Therapy was founded by three men and three women in 1917 (three years before women were able to vote).
  • Occupational Therapy techniques were used by Greek physicians for the treatment of mental illness as early as 100 B.C.
  • Wounded soldiers returning from WW1 and WW2 relied heavily on Occupational Therapy, pushing the profession to standardized training, instruction, and certifications.
  • The American Occupational Therapy Association celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2017!
